Marvin Rees
Marvin Rees is the current elected Mayor of Bristol, who will form a part of the procession party. Marvin was born and brought up in Bristol in the Lawrence Weston and Easton area. He studied Economic History and Politics at Swansea University, and later went on to achieve a Master’s degree in Political theory and Government.
His career has taken him through working in diverse areas, helping in both the UK and the US. Marvin also worked as a programme manager for the NHS focused on delivering Race Equality in Mental Healthcare throughout the Bristol area.
Marvin has also worked in Radio broadcasting, working as a journalist for BBC Radio Bristol, and still occasionally features on BBC Radio 5 Live and Bristol Community FM to name a couple.
Marvin became the first ever Mayor of Black-African-Caribbean descent of a European city, and has pledged to make Bristol a fairer city for all. He is determined to tackle Bristol’s housing crisis by building more homes, improving transport, ensuring early intervention in health and well-being and progress social mobility through access to education and skills.
